Take a Break
Over the weekend I read an article from Undercover Economist Tim Harford: “Want to get more done? Take a break (or two).” The article talks about the benefits of ‘some down time’, whether that be a short break, mastering a new challenge or doing “something that requires little conscious effort.” And continues to say that by taking a break we learn to relax and detach from our responsibilities which allow us to stay sharp and make good decisions.
The importance of rest completely resonates with me. For several years, I was depriving myself of sleep which in the end, meant I was faced with getting through total burn-out and some other dysfunctional behaviour I had created whilst trying to hold it together. Luckily for me, I was introduced to an incredible chap and I learnt the importance of rest.
Nowadays, switching-off, learning new activities and taking proper family time is part of my process. It allows me to make really good decisions, maintain my energy and perform at my very best. I refer to it as ‘my medicine!’
